HC Deb 09 March 1932 vol 262 cc1814-5W
Mr. LEWIS

asked the Minister of Transport if he will cause inquiry to be made into the extent to which long-distance motor lorries are diverting goods traffic from the railways, with a view to ascertaining how far such diversion of traffic is beneficial to the trading community and how far it represents an unnecessary congestion of road traffic and an unnecessary addition to the cost of upkeep of the roads?

Mr. PYBUS

I am anxiously studying this problem, and am giving careful consideration to the information supplied by the various organisations concerned. If it appears that further special inquiry would be likely to lead to a useful result, I shall certainly not fail to bear my hon. Friend's suggestion in mind.
