HC Deb 12 July 1932 vol 268 c1123W
Viscount KNEBWORTH

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what were the reasons that Mr. Joseph Martin's claim for compensation against the Soviet Government was not pressed by the Foreign Office in 1925; and whether, in any further negotiations relative to personal claims entered into with the Soviet Government, Mr. Martin's claim will receive due consideration?

Mr. EDEN

I regret that there was no favourable opportunity for pressing any British claims against the Soviet Government in the year 1925, all such claims having been exhaustively discussed at the abortive Anglo-Soviet conference in the previous year. As regards the second part of the question, I am quite prepared to give the assurance desired by my Noble Friend.
