HC Deb 06 July 1932 vol 268 c452W
Mr. HALL-CAINE

asked the First. Lord of the Admiralty whether any decision has yet been reached with regard to the proposed scheme for giving sail training to the personnel of His Majesty's Fleet; whether any estimate has yet been obtained of the cost; and whether any consideration has yet been given to the possibility of such training being obtained at less cost by loaning boys and cadets from His Majesty's Fleet for certain periods at a premium to sailing vessels of the merchant navy?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

With regard to the first two parts of the question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given on 29th June to the hon. and gallant Member for North Battersea (Commander Marsden). With regard to the last part, I am afraid that the type of training suggested would not meet our requirements, even if suitable ships were available.
