HC Deb 03 February 1932 vol 261 cc134-5W
Mr. SMITHERS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the unsatisfactory nature of the debt and claims negotiations, he will consider the rupture of diplomatic relations with Soviet Russia?

Sir J. SIMON

I would invite the attention of my hon. Friend to the note addressed to the Soviet Ambassador recently, the terms of which were communicated to the House yesterday in reply to a question asked by my hon. Friend the Member for South Kensington (Sir W. Davison). I have at present nothing to add thereto.

Mr. SMITHERS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the number of meetings of the Russian Debts and Claims Committee and sub-committees; whether any progress has been made towards a settlement; has he had any further interview or communication with the Soviet authorities; and what is the present position?

Sir J. SIMON

The Main Committee has held 12 meetings; Sub-Committee B five, and Sub-Committee C two meetings. For a reply to the concluding parts of my hon. Friends's question, I would refer him to the answer given to my hon. Friend the Member for South Kensington yesterday.
