HC Deb 03 February 1932 vol 261 cc135-6W
Mr. TURTON

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will consider the amendment of Section 36, Sub-section (2), of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, so as to provide that the fee for a driving licence should be increased by 2s., and that the sum so raised shall be handed over to a central fund to be paid out to the voluntary hospitals for such part of the maintenance of victims of road accidents as is not covered by payments from any other source?

Mr. PYBUS

I do not feel justified in recommending the legislation which would be required to impose a compulsory levy on the drivers of all motor vehicles for this purpose.
