HC Deb 29 September 1931 vol 257 cc204-6W
Mr. R. MORRISON

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can give any estimate as to the numbers of unemployed persons registered at Tottenham Employment Exchange who are likely to be referred to the public assistance committee from now until the end of the present year?

Sir H. BETTERTON

At 21st September, 1931, there were on the register of the Tottenham Employment Exchange 390 men and 37 women with claims autho- rised for transitional benefit. At 14th September there were 875 men and 142 women in receipt of benefit other than transitional benefit who had received 156 days or more in their current benefit year. I am unable to make any estimate of the numbers likely to fall within these two classes at a future date.
