asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the number of inspectors who have been appointed to inquire into transitional benefit cases in the Burghs of Airdrie, Coatbridge, Hamilton, Motherwell and Wishaw, and Rutherglen; and the number appointed for the County of Lanark outside the burghs named?

The additional staff which it was proposed to engage for this purpose, according to the latest information available was

  • 4 in Airdrie,
  • 7 in Coatbridge,
  • 6 in Hamilton,
  • 7 in Motherwell and Wishaw,
  • 4 in Rutherglen,
and 26 in the county exclusive of the burghs. These numbers include staff employed wholly or mainly on clerical and typing duties.
