HC Deb 24 November 1931 vol 260 c242W
Sir R. BLAKER

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware of the serious position of the bulb-growing industry in this country by reason of abnormal imports of foreign bulbs; and whether he is prepared to take any immediate action to protect this industry?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I am not aware that the recent increase in the number of bulbs imported into this country has adversely affected the sale of home-grown bulbs. On the contrary, I understand that English growers have experienced a satisfactory demand for bulbs this season. I am, however, giving careful consideration to the position generally of the bulb and flower industry in connection with the Government's agricultural policy.
