HC Deb 04 May 1931 vol 252 c39W
Mr. LATHAN

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been drawn to the obstruction to traffic caused by weddings at Saint Martin's Church, Trafalgar Square, and the inconvenience and loss imposed upon the general public; whether he is aware that on Monday, 27th April, from about 2 p.m. to 3,30 p.m., there was widespread dislocation of vehicular traffic; and whether steps can be taken by regulations, or otherwise, to minimise this dislocation of traffic?

Mr. SHORT

On the particular occasion mentioned a certain amount of traffic congestion occurred owing, in part, to the obstruction of neighbouring streets by work in progress, but it could hardly be described as widespread dislocation. My right hon. Friend is advised that the powers of the police are adequate, and there is not at present any need for special regulations.
