§ Mr. SHAWThe saving in wages is estimated at £15,000. The general reintroduction of piecework has already taken place, on 6th October last for the skilled men and on 1st December last for the others. The only men now on day work who would normally be on piecework are seven men engaged on new work for which piecework rates cannot yet be fixed. It should be possible to fix such rates in a few weeks time, when they will be applied to the staff concerned.
