HC Deb 29 June 1931 vol 254 cc900-1W
Mr. HANNON

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether any special steps have been taken during the past two years for the promotion of British trade interests in Turkey; if any instructions have been issued to the commercial secretary at Stambul to investigate the possibility of sales of British articles in that country; and if and when such a report was furnished?

Mr. GILLETT

In addition to the general instructions under which commercial diplomatic officers and trade commissioners report possible openings for British trade, specific instructions in accordance with a considered programme are issued to overseas posts from time to time. • Structural steelwork.
  • Light locomotives and rail coaches.
  • Wireless apparatus.
  • Weighing machines.
  • Pneumatic drills and small compressor sets.
  • Disinfectants and insecticides.
  • Sports goods.
  • Vegetable oils.
  • Internal combustion engines.
  • Polishes and dressings.
  • Hard haberdashery (Smyrna).
  • Cotton piece goods.
  • Electrical contractors' supplies.
  • Galvanised sheets.
  • Paints and varnishes.
  • Textile machinery.

These reports have been circulated by the Department to British exporting firms interested in the particular class of goods dealt with.
