HC Deb 17 February 1931 vol 248 c1092W
Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the result of the Conference for the Unification of River Law held at Geneva last autumn; and whether it is intended to ratify the conventions adopted thereat?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

The conference to which the hon. Member refers formulated three conventions:

  1. 1. On administrative measures for attesting the nationality of inland navigation vessels.
  2. 2. On the registration of inland navigation vessels, rights in rem over vessels and other cognate questions; and
  3. 3. On the unification of certain rules concerning collisions in inland navigation.

Since these conventions do not affect this country, it is not proposed to ratify them on behalf of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
