asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the total annual cost of Dartmouth College; the total number of staff, naval and civil, and the total annual salaries; the number of cadets which could be accommodated there and the number now under training; and what is the amount of subsidy paid to the expenses of the Britannia beagles?

Mr. ALEXANDER

The net annual cost of the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, including His Majesty's Ship "Forres," which is detailed for duty with the college, is approximately £102,700, and other particulars are as follow:

Staff 491
Salaries and wages, including non-effective liability £102,000
Approximate maximum accommodation for cadets 550
Number of cadets now under training 475

As stated in my reply on 14th May, 1930, to the hon. Member for North Bristol (Mr. Ayles) [OFFICIAL REPORT, column 1864, Vol. 238], the beagles at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, are not maintained at public expense.
