HC Deb 11 December 1931 vol 260 c2252W
Mr. BARTON

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the nature of the infortion he has now received regarding the more extended use of Empire-grown sisal in His Majesty's Navy?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

As a result of small scale trials of sisal, a purchase of 50 tons of this description was made this year to enable extensive trial on various naval stations to he made, in actual use, of cordage made from this material. This cordage has not yet been in use sufficiently long to enable any conclusion to be drawn as to its suitability in comparison with Manila hemp.
