HC Deb 11 December 1931 vol 260 cc2251-2W
Mr. LAW

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he is aware that tenders have been called for by the Admiralty for the supply of 300 tons of Italian hemp; and if, in view of the "Buy British" campaign, the Admiralty will give consideration to the purchase of Empire-grown fibre hemp?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

Tenders have been invited by the Admiralty for a smaller quantity of Italian hemp than that named in the question. The Admiralty consistently give consideration to the purchase of Empire-grown products, including hemp, but for the purpose for which this present purchase is necessary, no satisfactory Empire-grown substitute is available.
