HC Deb 11 December 1931 vol 260 c2234W
Mr. CASSELS

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office what reductions have recently been made in the prices paid to women piece-workers employed in the Royal Army Clothing Department, Pimlico, for the making of overcoats; and what are the average weekly earnings of these piece-workers working a full week?

Mr. COOPER

No reductions in prices for the making of overcoats at present manufactured at the Royal Army Clothing Factory have actually been brought into operation. The rates fixed for the manufacture of overcoats in next year's programme are based on a new process of manufacture, and any comparison between rates paid under different systems must be fallacious. It is impossible to give the average earnings under the new process, as it has not yet been in operation.
