HC Deb 10 December 1931 vol 260 cc2070-1W
Mr. CHORLTON

asked the Minister of Transport if he has any recent figures for the number of deaths caused annually at level crossings in the United Kingdom?

Mr. PYBUS

Particulars of such casualties during the past five years will be found in Table A on page 12 of the Report on Railway Accidents for the year 1930 (Cmd. 3939).

Mr. CHORLTON

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that long stretches of new highway are being much reduced in their traffic value by the obstruction caused by level crossings; and what steps he is taking to facilitate the removal of such obstacles?

Mr. PYBUS

It is not the practice to give assistance from the Road Fund towards the construction of new highways which will be subject to obstruction by level crossings, apart from temporary works crossings in exceptional cases. But if my hon. Friend will furnish me with any specific instance he has in mind, I will cause inquiry to be made.
