HC Deb 03 December 1931 vol 260 c1279W
Mr. MCEWEN

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the plight of farmers, especially in the southeastern parts of Scotland, owing to the recent fall in the price of sheep, he would be prepared to recommend as a temporary measure a nominal duty on all foreign beef and mutton entering this country?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I am not in a position to add to the statement of policy which I made on 26th November last. As I stated on Monday last in reply to questions by my Noble Friend the Member for Perth (Lord Scone) and others, I can hold out no hope of being in a position to make any further announcement before the House rises for the Christmas Recess.
