§ Mr. DAGGARasked the Minister of Health whether he has received representations from approved societies covering coal miners exclusively pointing out the loss of contribution income owing to continued unemployment and the consequent inability to pay any additional benefits; and, if so, what action, if any, he proposes to take to remove the anomalies that arise as between one society and another in this connection?
§ Mr. GREENWOODI have received representations from approved societies of the kind referred to by my hon. Friend which are not in a position to provide any additional benefits for their members. This is ordinarily due not only to loss of contribution income by reason of unemployment but also to an unfavourable sickness experience. Any steps to mitigate the disparity which at present exists between approved societies in this respect would require amending legislation.
