HC Deb 15 May 1930 vol 238 c2076W
Mr. R. TAYLOR

asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps he is taking to deal with the pollution of rivers; and if any recent Reports on the matter are available for Members of the House?

Mr. N. BUXTON

The Ministry has no power to prevent or control the pollution of rivers. It has, however, taken such steps as were open to it to ascertain the facts with regard to pollution and to bring them to the notice of the authorities charged by Statute with powers and duties in this respect, and of those who may be responsible for pollution. Recent Reports published by the Stationery Office on the subject are: Report of the Ministry's Standing Committee on River Pollution, 1930; First Report of the Joint Advisory Committee on River Pollution; the first two Annual Reports of the Water Pollution Research Board (1928 and 1929).
