asked the Postmaster-General if he will state the profit made by the Post Office for the last completed year; and if this profit includes the surplus paid from the Post Office Savings Bank to the Exchequer during that year?

Mr. LEES-SMITH

The profit for the year ended 31st March, 1929, was, as shown in the Post Office Commercial Accounts, £9,012,764. This did not include the contribution from the Post Office Savings Bank to the Exchequer.
