asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) the average annual number of teachers trained under Chapter 6 of the Regulations for the training of teachers in special subjects who have completed their training during the last three years, and the number he estimates will be required at 1st April, 1931, 1st September, 1931, 1st January, 1932, 1st April, 1932, and at 1st April in each of the years from 1933 to 1938, inclusive, in the event of the school-leaving age being raised as from 1st April, 1931;

(2) the average number of teachers of physical instruction who have completed their training during the last three years in Scotland; and, in the event of the school-leaving age being raised from 1st April, 1931, the numbers estimated to be required at that date, on 1st September, 1931, on 1st January, 1932, on 1st April, 1932, and on 1st April in each year from 1933 to 1938, inclusive?

The average annual number of teachers who completed training under Chapter VI. of the Regulations for the preliminary education, etc., of teachers in special subjects during the three years ended 31st July, 1929, was 271, and the corresponding number of teachers of physical instruction was 35. With regard to the second parts of the two questions, the information furnished by the education authorities is not sufficiently detailed to enable me to give the numerous particulars asked for.
