asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the total amount expended on public education in Scotland for the last year for which figures are available, showing the amounts expended from the rates and taxes, respectively?

The total revenue expenditure of education authorities in Scotland in the year ended 15th May, 1928, the latest year for which audited figures are available, was £11,846,155. The contributions from rates and taxes were £5,101,595 and £6,504,774, respectively, the balance of £239,786 being met from sources of local income other than rates.
