§ Mr. GILLasked the Attorney-General whether he has yet received the Bill drafted by the Law Society after discussion with the provincial law societies, designed to protect the public in future against losses arising out of the fraudulent conversion of clients' property by solicitors; and, if he has not received such a Bill, is he prepared, after a reasonable period has elapsed, to himself bring forward a Bill which will give the public more adequate protection?
§ The ATTORNEY-GENERALI feel confident that there is a considerable public demand for a Bill of this sort. It would be manifestly desirable that the initiative in putting forward the necessary Measure should be taken by the Law Society. I have not yet received any Bill drafted by the Law Society; but I understand they have the matter under consideration and that it will be discussed at a meeting of the Associated Provincial Law Societies to be held at a very early date. Until I know the result of that discussion, I am not prepared to make any statement as to the action which may be appropriate.
