HC Deb 12 May 1930 vol 238 cc1464-5W
Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

asked the Attorney-General the number and salaries of the official arbitrators at present holding office under the Arbitration (Assessment of Compensation) Act, 1919; the number and nature of the cases in which they have been employed during the past 12 months; and whether it will be necessary to add to the number of these arbitrators if, and when, the Housing (No. 2) Bill becomes law?

The ATTORNEY-GENERAL

The number of official arbitrators under the Acquisition of Land (Assessment of Compensation) Act, 1919, is two, each receiving a salary of £2,500. During the 12 months ending 2nd May, 1930, there were 266 references to them under that Act and 71 applications to them under Section 84 of the Law of Property Act, 1925. It is impossible to foretell what further number, if any, of arbitrators will be rendered necessary when the Housing (Mo. 2) Bill comes into operation.
