HC Deb 06 May 1930 vol 238 c770W
Mr. ALBERY

asked the Postmaster-General why his Department still issues oil lamps for the use of postmen in certain districts of the West-end of London; and whether he is aware that some of the postmen refuse to use oil lamps owing to the inconvenience of oil?

Mr. LEES-SMITH

Oil lamps are issued to postmen generally, both in London and the Provinces, because they have hitherto been regarded as more reliable than electric torches. I am aware that some postmen in the Western District of London have provided themselves with torches. The matter is at present under consideration in the light of certain experiments which have been made.
