§ Mr. LANSBURYCertain works have been put in hand this winter in all the Royal Parks with a view to giving some extra employment. In Regent's Park the rank weeds are being grubbed up on one of the islands and decayed trees are being removed, flowering shrubs being planted instead. The other two islands were similarly treated a few years ago. It is hoped that what has been done will make the islands more attractive to the birds. One or two unpleasing shrub- 443W beries, mainly of privet and laurel, have also been removed. A considerable amount of planting of flowering shrubs and roses has been done in their stead. I cannot agree that any of this work is in any way detrimental to the park.
