HC Deb 04 February 1930 vol 234 cc1712-3W
Mr. MUGGERIDGE

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he is aware that the official guides are not at the disposal of the public at the Victoria and Albert Museum on Sundays; and whether, as that is the day when the largest number of people to whom the full value of the exhibits are only avail- able with the help of experts, he will make arrangements for the attendance of guides on Sundays?

Sir C. TREVELYAN

I have been asked to reply to this question. I am aware that the official guides do not attend on Sundays at the Victoria and Albert Museum, but I am not prepared, as at present advised, to alter the arrangements. I am informed that guided tours of the galleries can only be conducted with a reasonable measure of success with fairly small numbers, and that on account of the large attendance on Sundays such tours would interfere with other visitors, and would also probably be rendered largely ineffective by attracting too many listeners.
