HC Deb 04 February 1930 vol 234 cc1706-8W
Mr. TOWNEND

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the number of disabled ex-Service men in the P-class of the Civil Service and the temporaries, respectively, who have been discharged from the Civil Service because their War-time disabilities prevent them from the adequate discharge of their duties; whether in all these cases he makes representations to the Minister of Pensions that the pensions of these men should be increased in view of the intensification of their disabilities; and, if not, whether he will make such representations in future?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

As regards the first part of the question, I regret that no central record is available which would enable me to furnish the information desired. With regard to the second and last parts, it would be outside my province to undertake the suggested procedure. But I understand that the Ministry of Pensions are able to give the necessary medical and other consideration to individual officers concerned whose disability may have increased.

Mr. RAMSBOTHAM

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, in all cases in which temporarily-employed disabled ex-service men are dismissed owing to their war-time disabilities preventing the discharge of work entrusted to them, he will lay their cases before the Ministry of Pensions to see that the amounts awarded by that Department are increased so as to compensate in some measure for the increase of their disabilities?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply of to-day to a similar question by my hon. Friend the Member for Stockport (Mr. Townend).

Mr. RAMSBOTHAM

the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many temporarily-employed disabled ex-service men have been dismissed in each of the last five years solely on the ground that their war-time disabilities unfit them for the discharge of their duties; what was the average length of service of these men; and whether they received any payment or gratuity of any sort at the end of their employment in the service?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

No central records are kept of temporary ex-service men whose services are terminated in the circumstances described and I regret, therefore, to be unable to furnish the hon. Member with the information he desires.
