HC Deb 02 December 1930 vol 245 c2021W
Mr. WELLS

asked the Minister of Transport if he has adopted any scheme for uniformity of road signs in the country and for road signs and automatic signals in towns; and whether he has received any suitable scheme which he could recommend to the local authorities for adoption?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

Recommendations concerning standard road signs were issued to all local authorities in the form of a Memorandum No. 291 (Roads) on 14th April, 1930. In September, 1929, Memorandum NO. 297 (Roads) was also issued to local authorities dealing with traffic control by light signals. Grants are made from the Road Fund towards the expenditure incurred in the erection and maintenance of approved signs and signals.
