§ Mr. KELLYasked the Minister of Labour whether her attention has been drawn to the importation of workers to the East Anglian district for the cultiva, tion of the sugar-beet crop; whether she is aware of the large number of regular farm workers who are unemployed in Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridge; and will she see to these farm workers having an opportunity for the work before this labour is imported?
§ Miss BONDFIELDI have no compulsory powers in this matter, but arrangements are being made through the Exchanges with a view to giving local unemployed labour an opportunity of filling all vacancies which are notified by the farmers. The co-operation of the farmers is, of course, essential, and I am issuing a leaflet to them, calling attention to the facilities offered by the Exchanges.
