HC Deb 15 April 1930 vol 237 c2742W
Mr. HURD

asked the Minister of Transport if his attention has been called to cases in which county councils are appointing sub-divisional surveyors, to the exclusion of rural district council highway surveyors who have equivalent or higher qualifications, and so placing an unnecessary additional charge upon the county rate for compensation; and what steps he proposes to take?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

I am aware that there are cases where the appointments of rural district road surveyors have been terminated by county councils, but I have no power to intervene in any action which a county council may take in regard to road officers transferred to them under the provisions of Section 120 of the Local Government Act, 1929.
