HC Deb 09 April 1930 vol 237 c2179W
Mr. W. G. HALL

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, according to Admiralty Fleet Order 2060 C.W. 11920, the engineer officer is in future to have entire charge of the electrical-motor driving machines, etc.; whether this will lead to some reduction of staff for electrical duties; and, if so, will he explain the increase of 41 electrical artificers provided for in Vote 1?

Mr. AMMON

The engineer officer is in future to have entire charge of the electric motors driving machinery within his department. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative as the change merely involves a transfer of responsibility from one department to another with corresponding adjustments in complement. As regards the third part the increase of electrical artificers is necessitated by the extended use of torpedo and electrical apparatus in new ships.
