HC Deb 31 October 1929 vol 231 c333W
Mr. WALLHEAD

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he is aware that riders are compelled to ride the journeys underground when travelling over three miles per hour; and will he take steps to issue notices to have this practice stopped?

Mr. TURNER

I am not aware of the existence of such a practice. It would be contrary to Section 43 of the Coal Mines Act, 1911, and the Inspectors of Mines would certainly take steps to stop it, if and whenever they found it. If my hon. Friend can give me any specific instances I will see that they are dealt with.
