BALDWINasked the Minister of Health if he will consider the desirability of obtaining power to forbid the employment of hop-pickers on all farms which do not provide proper sanitary and sleeping accommodation, and to insist on the registration of such farms by the 344W local authorities in conjunction with the boroughs from which the pickers come, such registration being made subject to the fulfilment of these conditions?
§ Mr. GREENWOODThe local authorities have generally exercised their power of making byelaws requiring farmers to notify them of the reception of hop-pickers and are thus able to secure the observance of the byelaws dealing with sanitary and sleeping accommodation. I am not at present aware of any need for strengthening the legal position of the local authorities in this matter.
