HC Deb 31 October 1929 vol 231 cc361-2W
Mr. CLARKE

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will issue the necessary instructions to ensure that members of the military in celebrating Armistice Day shall not be armed?

Mr. SHAW

The three Ministers responsible for the armed forces after careful consideration of all the circum-stances, and particularly of the desires of the relatives of those who fell in the Great War, were unable to recommend parading at the Cenotaph service in any other than full dress -with arms. The detachments from the forces will there-fore be dressed and armed in the way customary on ceremonial occasions.
