HC Deb 13 November 1929 vol 231 cc2055-6W
Colonel CLIFTON BROWN

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that there has been considerable delay in improving the dangerous bends of the main road into Hexham from Newcastle; and if he will take steps to expedite this work?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

I understand that, for some time past, the Northumberland County Council have been considering a scheme for the improvement of the road in question but that, up to the present, the matter has been deferred for financial reasons. I understand, however, that the county council are considering the inclusion of this scheme in a programme of works on classified roads in the county which they will shortly submit for approval. In the event of the county council deciding to put the work in hand, I shall be prepared to consider favourably an application for a grant towards an approved scheme.
