HC Deb 13 November 1929 vol 231 cc2058-9W
Sir H. NIELD

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he is aware that new entrants have already been appointed to the clerical classes of the Civil Service from open competitive examinations which will, in the future, cause redundancy in the temporary staff; and whether he will give an assurance that, as a result of the employment of these new entrants, no efficient ex-service temporary clerk will be dismissed from His Majesty's Civil Service?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. The second part does not therefore arise, but I may remind the right hon. and learned Gentleman of the assurance which I gave him on this matter on the 31st October last.
