HC Deb 13 November 1929 vol 231 c2063W
Sir J. LAMB

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Commission under the Chairmanship of Lord Olivier to investigate the causes of depression in the cane-sugar industry is limited to the British West Indies or whether the financial and social conditions arising from similar difficulties in Mauritius will also be considered; and whether the Report of Lord Olivier's Commission will be published before any decision is taken to abolish the existing preferential duties on Empire-grown sugar?

Mr. LUNN

Mauritius has not been included in the scope of the West Indian Sugar Commission, but a similar investigation in that Colony has been entrusted to Sir Francis Watts. My Noble Friend would prefer to see the Reports of these Commissions before giving any undertaking as to their publication.
