§ Miss BONDFIELDAt 4th November, 1929, there were 3,625 persons on the registers of the Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham Employment Exchange, as compared with 2,725 at 3rd June, 1929. The industries in which the greatest numbers of insured persons were recorded as unemployed at the most recent date for which figures are available were: ship building and ship-repairing, building and public works contracting, distributive trades, shipping service, dock, river and canal service, general engineering, and motor vehicle making, in the case of men; and distributive trades, hotel and boarding house service, and tailoring in the case of women.
