HC Deb 12 November 1929 vol 231 c1757W
Rear-Admiral BEAMISH

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if his attention has been called to the judgment in the Marlborough Street Police Court, on Wednesday last, to the effect that the Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies had failed to carry out his own Regulations with regard to the New Era Housing Society, of Newcastle; that the inquiry into the affairs of that society was void; and that the Chief Registrar was penalised in the sum of 10 guineas costs, besides having incurred the taxpayer in a further loss of £134; and will he take steps to see that in future these Regulations are complied with?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

I under stand that an appeal is being entered against this decision, and I cannot there fore express any opinion on the subject.
