HC Deb 11 November 1929 vol 231 c1542W
Mr. HOPKIN

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade, as representing the Forestry Commissioners, if his attention has been drawn to the method of afforestation followed in Carmarthenshire, where farms have been bought and the best fields have been planted and the poor parts left; that no trees have been planted on the higher and more exposed parts; and if he will inquire into this method?

Mr. W. R. SMITH

The Forestry Commissioners' method of afforestation in Carmarthenshire is not as stated. Most of the planting has been confined to the higher poor land and the replanting of cleared woodland areas. The only better class land which has been planted are occasional small areas included to round off boundaries and reduce expenditure on fencing.
