HC Deb 11 November 1929 vol 231 cc1552-4W
Mr. MILLAR

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will be prepared to consider the remission of loans by the Public Works Loans Board and by the Treasury as well as loans made by the Development Commissioners to Scottish fishery harbours where, owing to the con- ditions prevailing during the War and when little or no harbour revenue was earned, it has become impossible for the harbour authorities to meet the accumulation of debt at present resting upon them?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

No loans other than those from the Development Fund have been made by the Treasury to Scottish fishery harbours. As regards loans made by the Public Works Loan Board and loans from the Development Fund, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer gave him on the 18th July last, and to the reply given to the hon. Member for Caithness and Sutherland on the 5th November, of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. BOOTHBY

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he can make any statement regarding the debt position of the Scottish fishing harbours; and what, if any, remissions of debt His Majesty's Government propose to make?

Dr. MORGAN

asked the Minister of Labour what applications, if any, have been made by the Camberwell Borough Council for assistance for schemes for the relief of unemployment under the Development (Loans and Guarantees) Act; what applications have been granted and subject to what conditions; whether any representations have been received for modification or variations of the imposed conditions; and what is the estimate of the number of persons liable to secure employment under these local schemes?

Mr. ADAMSON

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. and learned Member for East Fife (Mr. Millar) on 5th November, and to the reply given on the same date by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer to the hon. and gallant Member for Caithness and Sutherland (Sir A. Sinclair).
