asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies who are the members of the Commission under Sir Daniel Hall, F.R.S., now investigating the working of the agricultural department in Kenya; and whether veterinary as well as agricultural services are included in their terms of reference?

Mr. LUNN

The members of the Agricultural Commission in Kenya are:

  • Sir Daniel Hall, K.C.B., LL.D., F.R.S. (Chairman).
  • The Chief Native Commissioner.
  • Mr. C. M. Dobbs, O.B.E.
  • Lieut.-Colonel J. G. Kirkwood, C.M.G., D.S.O.
  • Mr. E. Powys Cobb.
  • Lieut.-Colonel W. K. Tucker, C.B.E.
  • Mr. W. Evans.
  • Mr. J. F. A. Harper.
  • Mr. W. Tyson.
and such other person or persons as the Governor may from time to time nominate.

The terms of reference of the Commission are as follows: to consider and make recommendations with regard to:

  1. 1. The progress of the main branches of the agricultural industry (including "Native" agriculture and stock) since 1920.
  2. 2. Factors which tend to retard progress, if any, and the means whereby production may be increased and accelerated.
  3. 3. The provision which should be made for augmenting Departmental or other services calculated to advance the industry, and the share, if any, which should be borne by organisations or undertakings representing or concerned with agricultural interests and production.
  4. 4. The formation and functions of advisory consultative or other bodies in connection with the agricultural industry.
