HC Deb 07 November 1929 vol 231 c1277W
Mr. LEES

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can state the amount of State money which has been given to the mining industry from the beginning of 1909 until the end of 1928?

Mr. SNOWDEN

The total payment to the coal mining industry in respect of the period of coal control (including the subvention in 1921) was £43,500,000. The cost of the Coal Mining Industry Subvention in 1925–26 was £23,350,000. Apart from these two main items, there may be a few small payments of a miscellaneous character the total of which could not be given without considerable research.
