HC Deb 07 November 1929 vol 231 cc1274-5W
Sir W. de FRECE

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether it is the intention of the Customs and Excise Department to call up any of the successful competitors in the examination for officers of Customs and Excise held in March last; if so, the number of appointments likely to be made; whether it is intended also in the near future to promote any members of the clerical class serving in the Customs and Excise Department of officers of Customs and Excise as heretofore; if so, the number of such promotions; and when volunteers are likely to be called for?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

It is the intention to appoint in due course the successful candidates at the examination for officers of Customs and Excise held in March and July last for which 50 vacancies were announced. It is not anticipated that it will be possible to make in the near future any further promotions from the clerical class to the grade of officer of Customs and Excise.
