§ Mr. DICKSONasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that Canadian sardines cannot be sold 1056W in this country unless the word sardine is omitted from the wrapper; and, seeing that the sale of this food under the description of Canadian sardine is permitted in every other part of the British Empire except South Africa, can he state the reasons for this discrimination against this Canadian produce?
§ Mr. W. R. SMITHIt has been decided in the Courts that the name "sardine" cannot legally be applied to the species of fish mentioned. The question is purely one of the meaning that the word "sardine" has in this country, and there is no discrimination whatever against Canada.
