HC Deb 05 November 1929 vol 231 cc852-3W
Mr. MILLS

asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that letters posted in Eltham on any Thursday are not delivered in Sidcup until the following day; and whether, in view of the development of these communities, he will take steps to unify and improve the postal facilities of these areas?

Mr. LEES-SMITH

It is the case that letters posted in Eltham on Thursdays are not delivered in Sidcup until the following day. The afternoon delivery in Sidcup has been suspended since 1922 on Thursday, the early closing day, with the consent of the urban district council, in order to afford the postmen partial relief from duty. The possibility of improving the postal service between Eltham and Sidcup will be kept in mind.
