HC Deb 05 November 1929 vol 231 c850W
Major GLYN

asked the President of the Board of Trade what is the average annual quantity of Continental barley imported into this country; and what is the average stock of imported barley?

Mr. W. R. SMITH

Imports of barley from the Continent vary considerably from year to year. During the live-year period, 1924–28, the average annual imports consigned from Europe (excluding the Irish Free State) amounted to 3,197,600 cwts., and the average stocks at the ports of this country of imported barley (from all sources), as calculated from the monthly estimates published in the "Corn Trade News," were 1,200,000 cwts.
