HC Deb 04 November 1929 vol 231 cc622-3W
Mr. KELLY

asked the Secretary for Mines if he will state the number of quarries in Great Britain in operation in June, 1928, and June, 1929?

Mr. TURNER

In 1928 the number of quarries under the Quarries Act (i.e., quarries more than 20 feet deep in any part) at which work was in progress at some time during the year" was about 5,300. No figures are available for 1929 as information with regard to quarries is only collected annually by my Department.
